Criminal Law
We are equipped to handle all types of criminal cases, ranging from midemeanors to felonies.

We try to keep our costs extremely affordable in light of the fact that we strive to obtain dismissals and reductions without the necessity of a trial.  For example, we routinely file applications for pretrial diversion for many misdemeanors, which is a program designed to get certain cases dismissed.  Consequently, we charge what we believe are extremely competitive rates.

                                                 JAIL RELEASES

We perform jail releases on a regular basis.  You can always reach us on our direct cellular phone at 797-0100 24 hours per day.

If an arrest occurs, a bond must be be set as a general rule before the Defendant can be released.   In Travis County, once the magistrate leaves around 1:00 A.M., an attorney can still obtain a release even though the bond is not yet set through the use of a "Hobby".  With a "Hobby", the jail releases the Defendant on the condition that the Defendant promises to appear with his/her attorney the next morning at which time a bond can be obtained.  Not all charges are eligible for Hobby's, although DWI's and certain misdemeanors typically qualify.   The advantage of a hobby is that the attorney can save a defendant from having to stay in jail overnight.

In Travis County, there are three types of bonds:

1. Personal
2. Cash
3. Surety

A personal bond is typically available with misdemeanors and some felonies.  There is a $20.00 fee for the bond charged by the County.  You can use either an attorney or a bailbondsman to obtain a release.

If the Judge does not approve a personal bond, then most likely the Judge will approve a Cash Deposit Bond whereby the Defendant is required to put up a % (often 10% of the bond) with the Jail.  This money is refundable once the case is completed.   The main advantage of an attorney over a bailbondsman under this scenario is that the cash bond can be assigned to the attorney as all or part of their fees.  In contrast, the fees charged by a bailbondsman are non refundable.
